Torino and the Car
The remarkable and must-see city of Torino (Turin) Italy is famous for inspired architecture, sumptuous chocolate, and the stunning success of the 2006 Winter Olympics.
But the modern history of this once industrial, now innovative city was, if you will pardon the reference, driven by automobile manufacturing.
That’s because Italy’s largest and most successful car company – FIAT – was here. At one point in the middle of the 20th century, nearly 35% of Torino’s work force was in some way connected to the auto giant.
