Music, movies, gossip; everything memorable you need to know is right here! Just a note about the following lists: They are in no particular order. I merely listed things that were popular or events that were important.

Breaking News of the 90's
- 1990: Smoking is banned on all domestic flights.
- 1990: Roseanne Barr sings the national anthem at a baseball game and royally screws up. Not only does she grab her crotch and sing absolutely atrociously, she also spits on the field!
- The Hubble Space Telescope is launched in 1990; First clear pictures received following some improvements in 1993; pictures taken in 1994 prove the existence of black holes.
- 1990: Mount Pinatubo (Philippines) erupts; global ash cover and lowering of temperatures globally.
- Iraq is attacked by the UN and Yugoslavia falls apart in 1991; 25, 000 fatalities in Yugoslavia alone.
- 1991: Magic Johnson gets positive results on an HIV test; shortly after, he retires and becomes a spokesperson for the AIDs epidemic.
- Rodney King videotape is released (1991) and racial riots result after officers found "Not Guilty" (1992).
- 1992: Prince Charles and Princess Diana separate.
- Quebec votes: "We will remain a Canadian province," voters decide in 1992.
- Mike Tyson is charged with rape in 1991; convicted and sentenced to six years in the slammer in 1992.
- Michael Jordan retires to play baseball (1993) and returns to basketball after a mere seventeen months.
- Pablo Escobar is shot and killed in 1993 after a 1991 surrender (and subsequent escape).
- World Trade Center is bombed (for the first time) in 1993.
- Mass murder-suicide (over a series of years); Order of the Solar Temple. Emmanuel Dutoit (son of Tony Dutoit), aged three months is repeatedly stabbed with a wooden stake in 1994. The Order believes Emmanuel is "The Anti-Christ" as described by the Bible. Only a few days later, fifteen inner circle members commit suicide with poison. Thirty are killed by bullets or smothering, and eight more are killed by causes unknown. Autopsy reports find many members are drugged. In 1997, five members take their own lives by fire and leave their children drugged but alive in sheds on the property. Police find them while investigating the fire.
- Kurt Cobain commits suicide on April 5, 1994.
- 1994: President Nixon dies of a stroke
- 1994: TV premier of the classic sit-com Friends. The show circles around the lives of three twenty-somethings living in New York City (three girls and three guys).
- 1995: OJ Simpson is charged with murder; he is deemed innocent (later found liable at a subsequent trial in 1996). Controversies continue to surround the OJ scandal, even after so many years.
- Netscape debut and Windows 95.
- Area 51's existence is confirmed by President Clinton in 1995.
- In 1996 Prince Charles and Princess Di decide that their separation isn't enough, and they file for divorce.
- 1996: Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls shot and killed; the hip-hop world is forever changed. While some people believe the shootings are related, others believe they are random coincidences. Whatever the case may be, both murders are still unsolved today.
- 1996: NASA scientists release a study showing possible microbe fossils found on Mars; could it be the first sign of extraterrestrial life? Later studies show the possible microbes are nothing more than water stains.
- Dolly the Sheep is cloned in 1996.
- 1997: Mass suicide reported; it is a strange and sad story. Thirty-nine members of the "Heaven's Gate Cult" kill themselves in California. They believe that, following their deaths, they will be led to a space-ship behind the passing Hale Bopp comet (first spotted in 1997) and live out the remainder of their lives in orbit.
- 1997: Princess Diana and Mother Theresa pass on.
- Titanic, Pokemon and Harry Potter: all new to 1997.
- Clinton orders both American and British air strikes on Iraq in December of 1997. Again.
- Columbine shooting in 1999; senior students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold go on a rampage, intentionally killing one teacher and twelve of their classmates. Twenty-one students are also wounded intentionally, and three students are unintentionally injured while attempting to escape from the school. After the massacre, the boys commit suicide.
- 1999: Pamela and Tommy Lee file for divorce; Tommy strikes Pamela while she's holding their infant son, and Pamela calls the police. Tommy is convicted of battery and child abuse and is sentenced to take anger management classes.
- 1999: Y2K scare and Woodstock.
- JFK Juniors plane crashes on July 16, 1999.
- 1999 X Games sees Tony Hawk land the first ever 900.

While the 80's was a decade known for its big hair and the 60's for free-love and hippies, the 1990's are a good balance of a little bit of everything.
