Brian Burke's tone on Monday October 4 was not quite a bold as it has been in past years but if he didn't exactly come out swinging when he met the media to pontificate on his Toronto Maple Leafs and the 2010-11 season, then he certainly did come out talking.
Never a man to leave a reporter bereft of a usable quote, Burke tossed them out like ice chips. They just seem to be a little more subdued than they once were. The Leafs have gone five years overall missing the postseason, the last two with Burke at the helm, so could losing be teaching him something? By his own admission he is certainly exercising caution.
“If you notice, we’ve avoided any bold proclamations. They tend to get pinned up on bulletin boards,” Burke said, giving the media a decent proclamation for the bulletin board. “It’s our goal and our intention to participate in the playoffs.”
